Mood Method

Jade Mpeye, sophomore at the University of Houston, discovered a surprising passion during the 2019 Coronavirus outbreak. In hopes to bring light to darkness, Jade created her own clothing brand, Mood Method.

The mission of Mood Method is to encourage people to shop with their feelings in mind. While she does offer trendy styles, she wants people to think further about how the top will contribute to their mood when they purchase. As a business owner, she takes comfort in having creative freedom and expression of her vision.

“I started Mood Method in the midst of the pandemic my senior year of high school. My thought process was to do something that brought me a little joy as we were all staying in the house for so long— clothes seemed like the obvious choice. I narrowed down to selling fashion tops and from that point I’ve been active since,” said Mpeye.

After doing research before launching the website, Jade realized the subconscious choices we all make when choosing our outfits. Mood Method encourages customers to shop based on their moods.

The love of fashion drives her changing aesthetic so that it’s always unique.

“I wanted to really highlight this because I think it is what sets Mood Method apart as the customers are encouraged to shop based on their moods not just what’s cute even though in my opinion, everything is quite cute. I hope people are able to see that.”

Liking so many different things contributes to Mood Method’s overall aesthetic.

Mpeye explains that Mood Method helped her realize that she truly enjoys seeing others happy and loves to discover new opportunities for herself, even if they are challenging.

Jade hopes to continue growing her brand in the way that looks best for her and push to sell and bring her creative spirit and smiles to people’s faces.

Jade encourages upcoming black clothing designers to take joy in the planning process of your big launch!

“To me, the back-end tasks are the most important to make things easier for customers to shop, give you a clear vision on what you need to complete next, and once these tasks are done stress is taken off of you and the focus could be shifted to other areas of your business.”
